Best PS4 Pro games – 4K PS4 Pro games that make the PS4 Pro Worth it

So you have a PS4 Pro and a great 4k TV for gaming but which games look and perform the Best?  How do you figure out the Best PS4 Pro games?  To take full advantage of your systems capabilities the games need to support 4k HDR.  Not all Pro enhanced games have HDR or even 4k.  Some are just Full HD or have some basic graphic enhancements.  It’s hard to figure out the games that look the best with your 4k HDR gaming setup.  To make it a little easier, I’ve put together a list of some of the best 4K PS4 Pro games.

All of these games not only suport 4k resolution but are also a blast to play.  The games below in my opinion make the PS4 Pro worth it.  Please see my post PS4 Pro games list for a full list of PS4 Pro  enhanced games and all their specs.

Every one of these games are compatible with both the PS4 and Pro.  Sony has mandated that all games be compatible with both systems, so don’t worry if you haven’t upgraded yet.  You can always play them on your PS4 until you make that jump to the Pro.

Best PS4 Pro games

Horizon: Zero Dawn

Best ps4 pro games

Resolution: 4K

HDR: Yes

Price: $59.99

The first time I played Horizon Zero Dawn on the PS4 Pro I was simply amazed.  It’s as if the game was made specifically to show off what the PS4 Pro can do.  I honestly believe when played on the right 4k HDR TV, this game on the Pro has the best visuals you can get on a console right now.

The game itself has a vast landscape with nearly endless missions and tasks.  The gameplay is fun and very immersive.  The stunning visuals that the 4K HDR produce takes this great game to a whole new level.  If you buy only one Pro enhanced game, Horizon: Zero Dawn should be it.

Ratchet and Clank

Best ps4 pro games

Resolution: 4K

HDR: Yes

Price: $19.99

It’s been said that if a Pixar animated movie could be played as a Video game that Ratchet and Clank on the Pro is what it would look like.  I couldn’t think of a better way to describe it.  It’s not a game that game that goes for realistic graphics.  Its more of an animated type video game.  Hence the Pixar anolagy.  The PS4 Pro’s HDR 4K resolution transform this sci-fi shooter into an eypoping hit you will surely enjoy.

Rise of the Tomb Raider

4k ps4 pro games

Resolution: 4K

HDR: No

Price: $59.99

Even without HDR this game looks unbelievable.  The scenery looks about as real and crisp as you can imagine.  Every detail seems to pop as you play along in Rise of the Tomb Raider.  You can increase the frame rate to 60 fps if you so desire at the cost of resolution.   I think its a great idea to have that option.  Its nice to choose between what’s more important to you.  The great 4k resolution, great game play and the ability to increase the frame rate add up to this being one of the Best PS4 Pro games.

Fifa 17

4k ps4 pro games that make ps4 pro worth it

Resolution: 4K

HDR: No

Price: $39.99

Fifa 17 somehow manages to give you native 4k resolution at a solid 60 fps.  That is extremely impressive.  Most of the other Pro enhanced games are using some kind of upscaling technique to achieve 4k resolution.  The Pro is the most powerful console on the planet, at least until the Xbox Scorpio comes out.  That being said it’s still underrpowerd compared to the best gaming PC’s.  For Fifa 17 to give native 4k at 30 fps is nothing short of amazing.

If only it supported  HDR, it would probably be the best looking game on the Pro.  To be fair, there’s basically no way that would be possible and still have 60 fps.  I suppose EA choose a constant higher frame rate over HDR.

Resident Evil 7

Best ps4 pro games

Resolution: 4K

HDR: Yes

Price: $59.99

Resident Evil 7 is one of my favorite games on this list.  I have always liked resident evil games but I love this one.  I particularly love the fact that this game one has an option to be played in first person.   When you add in 4k and HDR it makes the horror that much better.

Considering this game has a lot of dark scenes, the HDR is the real star here.  Once you play it, you’ll understand  why the super dark blacks are great for a horror game.  Then there’s the fact that you can play this game on the PlayStation VR.  There’s just too many added bernifits to playing this game on the Pro to ignore.

Abzu

Games that make ps4 pro worth it

Resolution: 4K

HDR: Yes

Price: $19.99  FREE TO PS PLUS MEMBERS FOR THE MONTH OF MAY 2017

As if exploring the oceans depths in Abzu wasn’t cool enough without 4k.  With the added resolution you add a whole new sense of realism to your journey.  I really  enjoyed this game when I first played it on PS4, however on the Pro I found it hard to stop playing it.  The ocean life seemed to mesmoruize me as I swam along.  I felt like I was on a real deep sea adventure.  This is one Pro  experience I highly recommend.  It just so happens to be one of the free offering for the PlayStation Plus members in May 2017.  Make sure you download this one.  Its free!

Final Fantasy 15

4k ps4 pro games

Resolution: 1800p

HDR: Yes

Price: $59.99

This is the only game that made my list that doesn’t offer 4k resolution.  Even without 4k, this game looks spectacular.  The Pro enhancements offer improved textures and shadowing.  These graphic enhancements along with stunning use of HDR create a dazzling picture.  The super dark blacks and the bright whites are a warm welcome for this game.  I’d probably be happier with the visuals if it were 4k resolution but I’m not complaining.  In my opinion when HDR effects are done right in video games it can more important than 4k.  Especially if the resolution is still pretty close to 4K at 1800p.  The amazing use of HDR increased resolution added to this amazing game make it one of the best PS4 Pro games available.

Best PS4 Pro games Summary

These are the best games with Pro enhancments I have found so far.  I’ll be sure to add more as they are released.  If you have bought the PS4 Pro and have not tried any of these games, you are missing out.  I strongly encourage you to check them out.  With all these great Pro enhanced games, you’ll surely find one you enjoy.

  • Wow! That image really brought me in. I actually have a PS4 but not a PS4 Pro. I played Resident Evil on PS4 Pro at my friend’s house (because I was too scared to play it by myself) and I must say it had really good graphics. And it really made me consider buying one. I was wondering if there were any FPS in 4k. Please let me know. Thanks!

    • Yes Battlefield 1 and call of duty infinite warfare are 2 really good FPS in 4k. I am a huge fan of FPS as well. I played infinite warfare and battlefield 1 on the PS4 Pro an they both look great. All of the games realeased and updated for pro over the past few months have really added a lot of value to the Pro. I really feel like the Pro is actually worth it now. I hope I helped. Thanks for leaving a comment Peter.

  • I used to have a PS4 but have recently switched over to an Xbox One because they’re slightly cheaper and it’s backwards compatible with an Xbox 360. However, these game recommendations are amazing. I really enjoyed Rise of the Tomb Raider. Ever since the early days of Tomb Raider on the PS2, I’ve been a die hard fan of Lara Croft.

Thank you for these recommendations! I’ll definitely look into these.

    • I play on an Xbox one S as well. I have freinds that play on both. There are many reasons to play on Xbox one over PS4. It just depends on your preferences. Which ever you play on these games are great. I also made a list for the best Xbox one S games if you want to check that out. There are some good Xbox exclusive recommendations on that list. Thanks Jackson.

  • The only downside of the PS4 Pro is the horrible jet sound of the fan. I think Sony made a terrible mistake here.

    • I do think it’s a little loud but it’s better than it overheating I guess. The quick fix is to use a headset. I use a headset 95% of the time and I don’t hear it at all. I do agree though they should hsve figured out a way to make it quieter.

  • I had totally forgot about Ratchet and Clank!! I loved that game, I am definitely going to be getting the newer version of it. Thanks for taking the time to put this together.

    • Samuel, I loved it ratchet and Clank too. I hadn’t played it for a long time. Then I stumbled upon it again shortly after purchasing my PS4 Pro. It looks amazing and the game is more fun them ever, you won’t be disappointed. Ratchet and Clank is definitely one of the best games for PS4 Pro. Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment.

  • Hi Bill, great article and site–glad I came across it! Loving that list of games you mention, particularly a fan of Rise of the Tomb Raider, Ratchet & Clank, and Horizon. While the first two are classic franchises in their own respects, I admit that visually, not too many games can hold a candle to Horizon, coupled with its unique story, characters, and scenic landscape.

Curious–if you were stranded on a deserted island for a year and could only have one game to play, which would it be and why? (Forget the fact that on a deserted island, you’d actually have no video games access…and probably should be doing other things there like trying to stay alive…).

Thanks for the read–keep up what you’re doing!

    • Jabril, thanks for leaving a comment. I agree I can’t see any game topping the visuals of Horizon Zero Dawn any time soon. They really showed what the PS4 Pro is capable of.

As for your question on what game would I pick if I were stranded on an island for a year, that’s a tough one. I’m going to only choose from PS4 Pro games since this post is about the best PS4 Pro games. I’m really enjoying some games on Nintendo Switch games right now but I want to make it a little easier on myself. I’d probably go with Battlefield 1. I love online multiplayer shooters and it’s probably the best out right now. It’s not my favorite game ever or anything but I think I’d be able to play it the most without getting bored of it compared to other games. If I could pick future games it would be Desriny 2 for sure. Even though I haven’t played it yet, I have no doubt I could play it for a year without being bored.

  • Hey Bill, noticed your comments on FF15. I heard that while the visuals were stunning, the battle system was kind ‘meh’ and super repetitive. I encountered this with FF13 where once you got the party setup to auto battle you just didn’t even have to do anything other than in huge boss fights. Was this your experience? Or did you find it more enjoyable? I ask because you and I seem to have quite similar taste in games based on previous articles of yours I’ve read.

    • Thanks for the comment Craig, I’ll be honest I didn’t play FF13 much, only s couple of hours or so. I never really enjoyed the past games as much. FF15 is s different story. I enjoy it very much. I didn’t really experience what you described. I didn’t really feel as though it is repetitive but I may not have noticed because I was so impressed by how good the game looked. I haven’t played it in a while so I’ll check it out again and let you know if I feel it’s repetitive.
