Forza Motorsport 7 Review
Forza Motorsport 7 is a racing game developed by Turn 10 Studios for Windows and Xbox One. Straight away, Forza Motorsport 7 stands out in the racing video game genre with its huge selection of cars. And by that I mean over 700 unique cars, all of them fully customizable of course. If that’s not a good enough selling point, keep reading, for there’s more to Forza Motorsport 7 than meets the eye.
The Latest Forza Game
Being part of the Forza franchise, Forza Motorsport 7 definitely outshines its predecessors. It features a greater number of cars than ever before and it pushes new boundaries in terms of graphics. The game is aesthetically pleasing, it looks modern. The cars, as well as the tracks, look amazing. On Xbox One models, the game can run at 60 fps and 1080p. It’s best played on the Xbox One X.
Gorgeous And Captivating
And when we say that the game is aesthetically pleasing, we mean it. As soon as you run your first race, you’ll see what we mean. It’s not just the cars, it’s the wet tracks, the reflections, the rain, the dust you blow behind as you accelerate. Forza 7 will capture you with its beauty.
It also features brand new dynamic weather effects, which are simply surreal. You might be racing on a clear sunny day when the game suddenly decides it’s time for a bit of torrential rain. The transition is beautiful, and the weather effects are relevant. Driving on rainy conditions will affect your handling in order to simulate real life conditions.
The Pro And The Newbs
Forza Motorsport 7 makes itself available to all players regardless of their skill level. Oldschool Forza players as well as players who have never touched a Forza game before will find themselves enjoying the game in all its splendor. Forza 7 brings certain features that will help newer players get on track. One such feature is the assists, which can be turned on or off anytime during the race. This feature is great for players trying out new cars or going through tougher race settings.
The game features five Championships and the grand goal is to win the Froza Drivers Cup. As is the trend for other Xbox exclusives, the Turn 10 has adopted a loot crate reward system. The loot crates can drop a large variety of ingame goodies, including cars, driver items, mods and much more. These crates can be bought with ingame currency called “credits” or shorter “CR”. Players may earn credits by racing against opponents and certain options can increase their CR earnings, such as increasing the AI difficulty.
Unfortunately, it’s not all nice and dandy. In recent news, Turn 10 has announced that a new currency will be introduced in Forza 7 called “tokens”. These will be purchasable using real money. So, there would be an argument here that the game is becoming “pay to win” or that it is turning into a cashgrab. Nonetheless, the loot crate trend is pretty hard to ignore, since it brings incentive to the players to keep playing the game in order to obtain loot and it’s very lucrative for the developers.
Forza Motorsport 7 review
My Rating: 8.0 out of 10
Publisher: Microsoft Studios
System: Xbox One and Windows
Price: $59.99 on Amazon (subject to change)
- Gorgeous graphics
- Accessible to both newbies and veterans
- Vast variety of cars to drive
- Decent amount of tracks
- The introduction of tokens may make the loot crate system pay to win, to the detriment of players unwilling to spend more money on the game.
- The game encourages grinding with the assist mode since you get the same amount of credits as you would if you played without it
