The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild is out and it’s glorious. I don’t think I’ve ever used that word to describe a game. I’ll be honest, I didn’t have high hopes for this game. I have played other Zelda games in the past and while I thought they were good in their own way I never really got into them. I just generally don’t get into these action adventure type of games where you roam across the land gathering weapons, abilities and unlocking mysteries. If you read my bio you will see I’m more of a first person shooter and racing game kinda guy. So when I tell you this game is utterly amazing it should not be taken lightly.
The story grabbed me right away, the visuals are stunning and the freedom you feel in this game is second to none. There is a plot and an ultimate goal, however the rest is up to you. The map or world you are in is unbelievably large. I have not even put a dent in it or really in completing the game. Usually I feel I need to accomplish a lot when I play a game but I don’t get that feeling with this game. I’m in no hurry, I’m enjoying it too much. Nintendo has created a masterpiece with the Legend of Zelda breath of the wild. It is the closets thing to a perfect game I have ever played.
If you read my Nintendo Switch review you will find one of my issues with the console is the fact there aren’t many games out right now. While most consoles have this issue at launch I can tell you the fact that you can play Zelda right now will almost certainly keep you busy and having fun until there are more games to play. Below you will find my Zelda Breath of the Wild Review:
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild review
Overall rating: 98 out of 100
Systems: Nintendo Switch; Wii U
Game has absolutely no glitches
Challenging and rewarding
Extremely large beautiful open world
Remarkable Game play
Frame rate can drop at times in dock mode
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has been one of the greatest overall Game play experiences in my almost 3 decades of playing video games. The fact that this game has such a great story line, adds amazing visuals with near flawless performance on the switch while in handheld and on the dock has completely changed my view of Nintendo. Don’t get me wrong I have always enjoyed playing Nintendo games. They have always had a special place in my heart and have had a high fun factor for me. This game has taken that to a whole new level. It has really shown me what their game developers are capable of. This in turn has risen my hopes for future Switch games.
Another thing I’d like to mention as far as Game play and experience is this game gives you absolutely no direction. I didn’t list that as a pro or a con because it’s really completely up to you if you would rather be told what time do or figure it out for your self. This is a true open world game. Meaning you can play the game how ever you’d like. You have absolute freedom of choice as to how you play, where you go or if you choose to do side missions. You could even go fight the end boss at the start of the game if you figure out how to get there, although I wouldn’t recommend it.
To me this freedom and figure things out on your own adds to the fun factor. It’s part of what makes this game truly great. Although I could understand why someone would favor a little bit of direction. That’s why I didn’t list it as a pro or con. Of course those of you who want more direction can always do a quick Google search and learn just about anything you need to know about where to go or what to do next.
On the Switch’s handheld device this game preforms flawlessly in 720p @30 fps. While in dock mode the game will display in 900p @30fps to your TV. The game actually preforms much better will in handheld mode. I have not encountered any issues with Frame rate or any other performance issues for that matter. While in dock mode it will have the occasional stutter but I’ve have only seen it a couple times and it’s not noticeable enough to take away from its visually stunning glory.
I don’t really want to give too much away here. I intentionally did not find out much of the plot so I could find it out for myself. You will find that uncovering the story for yourself makes the experience that much better. What I will tell you is Link finds himself with amnesia and must journey through Hyrule to rediscover who he is and what took place. Only then can he realize who his enemy is and that he must save Zelda. It’s a wonderful story and really develops well as you play along.
I will say that even those who have not played any Zelda titles in the past will be able to play this game without missing anything. It seems to explain things well and gives you a good idea of the past through flashbacks. This is by far the best Zelda story line I have ever played and probably one of the better stories in any video game to date.
Nintendo has truly outdone themselves with The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. It is an all around winner and is a testimate to what Nintendo is capable of. In my opinion this is one of the greatest video games ever created. I’m not alone in thinking this. It has quickly become one of the highest reviewed games I’ve ever seen. Many critics are giving it 10 out of 10 and 5 out of 5 stars. The lowest I’ve seen from a critic is 97 out of 100. Amazon users Rate it at 4.8 out of 5 stars.
I honestly can’t imagine anyone not liking this game at all. If you enjoy any type of video game you will almost certainly enjoy this one. If you are a Nintendo fan or better yet a Zelda fan, then this game is a must have. The fact that you can play this game on the go or at home on your TV if you play it on the Nintendo Switch just makes it that much better. Zelda Breath of the Wild has single handedly made the new Nintendo Switch one of my favorite consoles of all time.
